This page describes how to sign up for specific events!
Sign-up system for 2008!
- ONLY RPG's (Roleplaying games), some LARPS, and certain special events will require our lottery system called the GameShuffler.
- All other events such as collectable card games, miniatures, table top games, etc., will have signups for events at the signup desk for that type of event.
- Details of where and when to signup will be in the program book, onsite.
- New! You may now submit your GameShuffler requests BEFORE the con starts!

Signing up for Roleplaying, Live Action and
certain special events.
Games and their event ID's
Most scheduled games at KublaCon will have an event ID.
When viewing events online, the event description indicates whether YOU MUST signup for THAT game through the GameShuffler.
In the program book, for all events marked with an asterisk (*) at the front of the ID, YOU MUST signup for THAT game through the GameShuffler.
If an event does NOT indicate signup through the shuffler or it does NOT have an asterisk, then signup for that game is handled through the appropriate category, i.e. Miniatures, CCG's, etc.

Again... which events get shuffled?
Events that are marked "Signup through the Game Shuffler." On the web, they're clearly indicated in the description. In the program book, they're marked with an Asterisk (*).

The different digits of the ID code give you a clue as to the event itself. While the first TWO digits are almost always represented as noted in the chart, the last THREE digits are used for different things such as flights, table numbers, etc.
For roleplaying games... the fourth digit from the right will always be a "2". For LARP's the fourth digit from the right is a "9."

Tournament Reg. Background
Your admission fee to KublaCon includes entrance into the various gaming events over the course of the weekend. Except for certain tournaments, there are no additional fees to participate. However, due to the popularity of some games, it may be impossible to allow everybody into a certain event. In order to handle this, we have created an event registration and lottery system that we hope will be not only fair for everyone, but will also keep you from spending your time standing in lines waiting to get into events.

Event Signup Periods
The schedule of events includes the signup times for various blocks of games, or sessions. Please note that you may signup for events in ANY PERIOD that hasn't reached its cutoff time.Prior to a period's cutoff time, you will create/log in to your account and indicate your top 3 choices in order of preference for events that fall into the signup period. You can submit your requests online before May 20th at midnight... or you can do it on site at one of our computer kiosks.
What this means... is that you can choose to submit requests on Friday afternoon for events that happen ALL WEEKEND.
Submitting your request early DOES NOT HELP you get into an event. Our Game Shuffler doesn't factor in the time of your request.
In case you change your mind about a previously made request you can log into your account either online before May 23rd and make changes... or you can make changes at one of our Kiosks on-site.

The Weighting System
At the end of the signup period, we will take all of the slips and enter them into EventShuffler, special software that we have written specifically for generating event registration. This is where the "weighting' system comes into play. The program will place people into events based on their "weight."
The lower your weight, the more likely you'll get into one of your three choices. The heavier your weight, the less likely you'll get into your first or second event choice, or into any of your choices at all. In the case of ties based on weight, then the program will randomly place people into an event.
At the beginning of KublaCon, every person starts with a base weight of 1000. The weight can be made lighter (less) by including one or more Priority Registration slips (in denominations of 50, or 100) with your selections. Your weight is adjusted to be heavier when you actually get into events that you've chosen. Getting into a 1st choice event adds more weight than getting your 3rd choice. Conversely, if you get none of your 3 choices, your weight will get an automatic deduction, making it lighter.
Over the course of the weekend, your weight and everybody elses will be changing dynamically. If you find that, at first, you're not getting into events, then as other people do get into events, their weight will get heavier relative to yours. The weighting system helps avoid certain people getting lucky and always getting into events, while others are not so lucky and never get into anything.
Posting of Events
Approximately 1/2 hour after the close of a registration period, we will post the game assignments outside of Area 2, in the lobby. We will post each event and the individuals assigned to the event, and we will also post a list of the individuals with their corresponding game assignment.
If you don't get one of your 3 choices, you can attempt to enter on a "stand by" basis, taking the place of "no Shows", by checking into the event in the room where it is taking place. If you get into an event, be sure to arrive on time, as all events will be run on a very tight schedule.
