Richard Borg

Richard Borg game design career began with an idea for a game that was a variation on a game he played with his softballs buddies using the numbers on dollar bills. Richard self-published this first game called Doubters Dice. A year later 1987, Milton Bradley licensed it as Liars Dice. In 1993 Liars Dice went to Europe as Bluff and won the German Prize ‘Spiel des Jahres’.

Following up this initial success were a number of AD&D games (TSR), X-Men games (Pressman Toy) and another hit for Milton Bradley Times to Remember. Battle Cry, published by Avalon Hill (now Wizards of the Coast), won the 2001 International Gamers Award and is the seed to many successive award-winning titles, using miniatures and mechanics that are very popular in the hobby market. These titles include, Memoir ‘44, published by Days of Wonder, which won the 2004 International Gamers Award and The Wargame 2004 for Excellence. Command & Colors: Ancients, published by GMT Games, took the 2006 Origins Award for Historical Board Game of the Year and in the same year the BattleLore series was launched. This fantasy-themed battle game series, originally published by Days of Wonder, is now in the Fantasy Flight Games line.

Richard also enjoys cards games, licensing Pig Pile to R & R Games, Ben 10 to Pressman Toy, Hera & Zeus to Rio Grande Games and Wyatt Earp also to Rio Grande Games, which he developed with Mike Fitzgerald and received the Meeple’s Choice Award. Richard was a core member of the original ‘Star Wars’ customizable card game design team (Decipher) and he is also involved with a number of other collectible card games.

Currently Richard is working on expansions for many of his hobby games, while his family game, Yahtzee Free For All (Parker Brothers/Hasbro) has received acclaim from the game community.

Because his body of work does encompass so many age groups and genres, you just may have one or more of Richard’s designs in your personal game collection.
