Jonathan Roth is Professor and Director of the Burdick Military History Project at Jose State University and the author of Roman Warfare (Cambridge University Press, 2009). Dr. Roth earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1991 after serving six years in the New York Army National Guard. He is the author of dozens of articles on ancient history.

A Fulbright/Hayes Scholar in the Federal Republic of Germany (1979-80), professor Roth was a President's Fellow at Columbia University (1985-87), had a Dorot Post-doctoral Teaching Fellowship at New York University (1991-94), was chosen as Outstanding Professor, Golden Key Honor Society (1999), and was named San Jose State University Outstanding Professor for 2005-2006.
