Welcome to our Tenth issue of the Khannections Newsletter!

KublaCon is less than THREE weeks away! Inconceivable!

Hello and welcome to another issue of Khannections. Yes, the excitement and fun of KublaCon is just brimming to overflowing as each day gets us that much closer to it. We have lots of good news to fill you in on, so we’ll get right to it because KublaCon 2006 is almost here!

Have fun stormin’ da castle (of KublaCon of course!)

Now that KublaCon is only a few weeks away (and hoody hoo! it’s going to be good this year!) have you made your plans to attend? Several of our Departments had a record breaking number of events this year and here are the totals of the many different types of games you’ll see at KublaCon.

  • Role Playing Games – 250 events
  • Table Top Board Games - 148 events
  • Fantasy/Sci Fi Miniatures – 126 events
  • Collectable Card Games - 58 events
  • Historical Miniatures – 54 events
  • Young Players Games – 39 Events
  • Historical Board Games - 23 events
  • Live Action Role Playing – 13 events
  • Collectible Miniature Games - 7 events
  • And many other Special Events and Demos!

So if there is a game you want to play (regardless of what type of game it is), I swear on the soul of my father, Domingo Montoya you will find it at KublaCon somewhere this year. If you are looking for more details on the games that are available this year, you can check them out at our: KublaCon Game Search! Or you can also download the complete Onsite Program Book here!

Submit your event request slips NOW!

For years, we have used a game shuffler system to randomly (and fairly) pick who will get into our RPG events (and a few select other events) at KublaCon. Up until this year, you have had to be onsite to put your name into this system.

Now for this year, you will have the ability to sign up for events that use the onsite game shuffler before you are at the show. We have integrated the computerized shuffler system we designed last year into our website. You will have to create a KublaCon.com account (if you don’t have one) to access the shuffler system. The deadline for selecting your choices will be Midnight on May the 23rd.

You may STILL SUBMIT REQUESTS ON-SITE... using one of our kiosks. And the Shuffler will NOT run until the designated time at KublaCon.

Of course, doing it now instead of on site will mean you will have more time to play games at the Con as you don’t have to wait in line to select your choices at the Kiosks. Please note though, for those of you who are GM’s or have pre-registered, you will still have to manually hand in your Priority Points on site for the period you want to use them. Learn about the new Online Shuffler System here!

Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

Well, it’s not quite that bad, but this is your last chance to pre-register for KublaCon.  The registration deadline is May 20th!  Up until May 15th, you can still get a $5 discount on the full 4 day weekend price at $45. You will then have only five more days to pre-register at the full price of $50. After May 20th you will have to get your badges on site. So please visit our “Registration” page and sign up now!

You still have time (but not much!) to reserve a room at the Hyatt by calling 1-800-233-1234 and ask to get the KublaCon Special rate of $102 per night. Our official cutoff date to qualify for the KublaCon discount is May 10th, so hurry and get your reservations in today! (The hotel "may" extend this date... but we cannot guarantee that they will do so!)

And finally, take a look at our updated “Getting ready for KublaCon” page where you can find more info on the above items and other good tidbits of info (including a survival guide for Attendees).

Have you ever considered piracy? You'd make a wonderful Dread Pirate Roberts.

KublaCon needs your help so join the KublaCon Staff (at least for a little while)! Volunteers are the individuals who keep conventions running smoothly each year and make the whole experience better for everyone. Volunteers who help for 4 hours will receive a priority registration slip. Volunteers who help for 8 hours will receive their convention registration fee back and receive a priority registration slip. All volunteers will get a special KublaCon 2006 Volunteer Pin. Many time slots and jobs are available and in most cases we can work around your gaming schedule - but this is on a first come first serve basis, so volunteer today! If you are interested in helping out, please drop Angel (our Volunteer Coordinator) a line at: volunteers@kublacon.com

Our assets? Your brains, Fezzik's strength, my steel…

And some very good people who call themselves KublaCon Event Coordinators. They have worked hard all season long to put on what looks to be another great Con. One of the more common questions we get from our Staff is “Oh my gosh, why can’t I just go to KublaCon as an attendee this year!?!?”  And that is because the event schedule is looking so spectacular, that even Prince Humperdink would have a good time at the Con. Here are the highlights of the different areas

It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead.

So you better rush as you are MOSTLY out of time to get in on our 6th Annual Game Design Contest! Our first five years were an incredible success for the design contest. Some of our winners have even gotten their games published. Zack and Amanda Greenvoss' winning entry from 2001, Phoenix, is still available, and one of our contest winners Jodi Soares is a published game designer as well with Russian Rails from Mayfair Games. If you want to submit a game... read ALL of the instructions here.

The KublaCon Amateur Game Design Contest is still accepting entries and the deadline is fast approaching! The entries need to be received by May 13th to be considered, and that is only a week away! So, put the polish on them, and send them in! Good luck... and have fun!

Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die…

…As my army of Kubla Civil War Hero Pins destroys your army! This years civil war theme honors our historical board gaming and miniature fans, and to our annual War College event! You can check out this year’s collectible pin set here!

Our treasure chest full of goodies is so full this year that even the Dread Pirate Roberts would give his black mask for! For many of the games events at KublaCon, if you win that event, not only will you be given one of our Civil War Prize Pins, but you could also win a stash of KublaBucks. You can then bring your KublaBucks to Kubla's Vault to claim your reward.  Of course some prizes will be worth more then others so with this system you can preview the prizes, decide which one you want, and keep collecting KublaBucks until you get it. We have just started to post a few of the bountiful bevy of prizes we are giving away for this year. You can check them out here!

Oh no, it's just that they're terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.

At least that is what Japji keeps telling us about Kilt Day! Show up on Saturday and come show your true colors (and those white legs and knobby knees) by wearing those kilts. Just don’t ask what Japji wears under his kilt!

"That's a miracle pill?"…

And you JUST might find one in our giant Dealers Room (where even a Giant like Fezzik could get lost!). Once again we have a Dealers Room with more Vendors then you can shake a fairy tale book at. From Aberrant Games which sells a fast paced, cinematic miniature battle game called (Rezolution) to Z-Man Games that makes the Shadowfist CCG and the B-Movie card games (like Grave Robbers from Outerspace), there will be an abundant amount of paraphernalia to peruse. You can check them out here.

I'm not a witch, I'm your wife!

Oops, getting caught up with all these Princess Bride quotes. Well of course this month’s victim is not a witch. She is one of our Assistant Board Game Coordinators and this year she is also our Mistress of the Board Game Design Contest. So with no further ado, let me introduce to you… Julie Haehn!

I do not mean to pry, but you don't by any chance happen to have six fingers on your right hand?

Ohio State University's School of Communication, in partnership with the Game Manufacturers Association and The Wargamer, is doing a survey of game consumers to gather information about what kind(s) of games you like and why you buy them. This information will go to manufactures and publishers to help make the type(s) games you want. Any and all game players are welcome to participate and submit their responses. They have asked us here at Khannections to ask our readers to please help them bring you better games by going to http://www.gamesurvey.org and taking the survey. They thank you in advance for your time!

Well, that’s it for this issue of Khannections! Our next issue won’t come out until after the Con so thanks again for taking the time to read our newsletters and we’ll see you at the Con real soon!

KublaCon does NOT sell, rent or share its mailing list with anyone else! Please feel free to send this email to your friends and help us spread the word on how fun KublaCon is. Grandma Bost says: "You can grow up, but whatever you do, don't ever grow old." and we can do that by playing more games! OK Japji, let’s sing it like the Beatles! Little darlin' the smiles returning to their faces.  Little darlin' it seems like years since it's been here. Here comes the Con! Here comes the Con! And I say it's all right!!!

Go Kubla! :o)
