Department Reports Producer's Report KublaCon's coming! And while there are many things that I could mention about the exciting event we're planning... there's ONE thing I just have to say: Role Playing With over 110 confirmed and proposed Roleplaying events, GMs are flocking to run at KublaCon. In addition to ten events from White Wolf Publishing's Arizona Demo Team, the men and women at Good Omens will run nine further events, ranging from Deadlands and Legend of the Five Rings, to indie press phenomena like John Wick's CAT, Prime Time Adventures, and Spirit of the Century. KublaCon 2007 also boasts a wide variety of other games, including GURPS Discworld, Michael Kelly's popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer games, and many D&D 3.5 games. Many other popular GMs from previous KublaCon’s have also returned to run GURPS, Stargate d20, HERO System and Call of Cthulhu. We look forward to a great convention for RPGs as well as for the rest of KublaCon.
Tabletop BIG GAMES -- BIG FUN KublaCon is all about BIG events. And when it comes to Boardgames, there are events that just scream BIG! Take the not one but two BIG events for Formula De’. First is the smaller of the two, the HUGE Formula De’ event on Friday as the convention opens, and second is the GIANT Formula De’ event on Monday as the convention closes. Collectable Card Games Hi folks! The Collectables dept has a lot of exciting things in the works right now. Expect to see many many more events posted up on the events schedule this month. It’s also not too late to submit collectable events, so please get them in before April! Here are some events in specific that you might want to take note of card players! The very popular Magic:TG Uncommon/Common Grab bag events will return in 2007. In these events you'll get to grab a handful of random cards to make a deck with. And who knows, at KublaCon you may even find a rare card! Best of all you get the keep the cards! We do have plenty of cards but if you have any that you would like to donate to the event please email ccgs@kublacon.com Whether you are a Game of Thrones board game player or card game player this next event may be of particular interest to you! The Game of Thrones Strategic Draft event is a unique combination game using the Game of Thrones boardgame and the card game. It will feature a beautiful giant sized version of the board game map! Players will break up into six groups each one representing a great house of the Westeros with the goal of conquering the Westeros! Event time Sun. 8am. KublaCon will also be hosting an Inyuasha Regional event for the first time! This trading card game is based off the popular anime series. The staggering amount of prizes includes a cash pool of $400, booster boxes and packs, voice actor autographed cards, and exclusive and participation promos. Event time Sat. 10am. If you enjoy Hong Kong style action movies Shadowfist is for you! For Shadowfist players we have a full event schedule already posted on the KublaCon website. Whether you are an experienced player or completely new to the game there will be a Shaadowfist event for you. If you're not sure what Shadowfist is all about then you may want to check out the Demo/Open Play event on Fri. at 7pm! If you have any questions on submitting events or questions in general please email ccgs@kublacon.com!Miniatures The time is drawing near and the Miniatures Department needs your events! April 1st is the deadline to submit events, so hurry on over to the KublaCon website (www.kublacon.com) and submit yours today! Or double check that your event has been submitted and is listed as an "Event Proposal" rather than a "Prior Year's Event." If your event is listed as "Prior Year" you need to re-submit the event as these will be purged from the database very soon. We have some great events again for you this year, including the return of the popular War College, the Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40K RTTs, Abberant Games' Rezolution Tournament, and Crocodile Games' Wargods of Aegyptus. Make sure to add your event to the list to help make this year's KublaCon as fun and exciting as last years! Jason Ellis, Miniatures Coordinator - jason@kublacon.com Young Player's Room Exciting things are in the works for the young player’s room. This year we've looking to have more events than ever before AND make them more accessible. How can we do this, you ask? First, we're breaking our events into three clear age groups. Age group 1 is for youth ages 8 to 11 (with a little leeway on either end). Age group 2 is for our fantastic 'tweeners', ages 12 to 14, again with some leeway to accommodate our more experienced younger players and our older players who just want to have fun with their buddies! And finally, our newest age group: Teens! Glorious Teens! Given our success with teen only games last year at KublaCon and ConQuest, we've decided to increase our offerings of games just for players age 14 to 18. Just think teens: you don't have to put up with those snobby adults! Remember, we're not a babysitting service, we require that parents come play with their younger kids (less than 8 years of age). We have lots of games and activities for the little ones too. Second - we'll need your help! Dads, Moms, already playing a cool board/card/miniatures/role playing or click game with your kids? Experienced referees and GMs, willing to promote our hobby by teaching new players your favorite game? Bring it into the Young Players Room! Eight (8) hours of volunteer work running games will give you a free weekend pass! And there's nothing quite like the rewards of seeing a new player get excited about their first time playing (insert your game here!). Be sure to let me know the age group(s) you can run for. If you'd like to run games for the YP room, but aren't sure about the working with kids part, don't worry! We have over 17 years of experience working with kids, and can give you pointers AND we'll be there to help if you run into problems at the Con. Becky Thomas Young Player's Coordinator www.roleplay-workshop.com Volunteering This year we’re trying something different with volunteer sign-ups! All sign-ups will now be done online just like signing-up to be a GM. Here is how it works: 1) Either Create a New Account or Login to your current one. 2) Once you’re logged in look at your options on the right hand menu bar. 3) For Volunteering the one you want is Task Search/Signup 4) Now that you’re there, you can use the drop-down options to select what kind of task you want to volunteer for. 5) Once you’ve found one you like, click the little box to the right of the task. Then at the bottom there is a button that says “Update Volunteer Request”, click that, and you’re done! 6) Please don’t sign up for more than 8 hours of volunteer time without prior approval from me. Keep in mind that it is first come first serve and that if you wait until the last minute you may not get your first choice. If you have any questions please email me at volunteers@kublacon.com Angel, Volunteer Coord
