Get to know your organizers! Ten questions with Jon Caudill

1. Tell us a little about yourself...

I have been playing games since I was a small fry.  I have fond memories of Monopoly, Uncle Rich, Park and Shop, and so many others.  My family played a lot of card games and I soon learned Canasta, Cribbage, Poker and the like.  While serving in the USMC, these skills kept me in snack money.  As an adult, I learned Dungeons and Dragons, the original and from there moved onto all sorts of board games, finally settling into military miniatures about twenty years ago.

2. What do you do at KublaCon?

KublaCon 2009 marks my ninth and final year as the Historical Miniature Coordinator.

3. How did you get involved with KublaCon and how long have you been here?

I was invited by Jeff Hiatt as a last minute fill in.

4. What motivates you and what rewards to you get out of being involved with KublaCon?

I have enjoyed this role every year.  As I tell all of our GMs, there are the ones who provide the entertainment.  I only help them with times and space.  My reward happens around Saturday afternoon each year.  After the edge of the cliff chaos of Saturday morning has settled down, I can look out on a sea of smiling faces, listen to the cascades of laughter, and feel the joy spreading like the dawning sun.

5. What is your earliest gaming or game convention memory?

I really don't remember what or where my first game convention was.  I have been a regular at Dundracon; Pacificon, now Conquest; and of course KublaCon, formerly Manafest and Gamecon (Games Caucus).

6. What is your favorite gaming or game convention memory?

My favorite con memory was many years ago in Oakland.  I was given the honorary position of the Viet Cong commander in a beautifully designed Viet Nam game put on by a long defunct group from Sacramento using their rules called Sat Cong.  I was dubbed Colonel Phat Boi.

7. What is your least favorite gaming or game convention memory?

I can't think of a least favorite game convention moment.  One year I did get a migraine headache and missed and entire day.

8. Give us a top 3 list of your favorite games and tell us your least favorite game.

The ever changing top three game list.  Hmm, now it would be Arc of Fire, Panzer Korps, and DnD 4e.  Least favorite, hands down, chess.

9. Where do you currently play games and what do you play when you are there?

I now am retired and living in Kentucky, near Lexington.  Most of my gaming is at private homes, but there are a couple of pretty good shops in the area.  We have a very active Living Forgotten Realms group that meets at various locations throughout the area

10. If you could tell all of the KublaCon attendees something, what would it be?

KublaCon is for you and you, the gamers and GMs, make KublaCon the success it is.  Thank you and enjoy each and every year.
