Welcome to our Twentieth issue of the Khannections Newsletter!

Live Long and Prosper

OK, we are now ready to beam you another exciting edition of Khannections! Yes, the excitement and fun of KublaCon is just brimming to overflowing and is just around the corner! We have lots of good news to fill you in on, so let’s straight to it!

Scotty, I need warp speed in three minutes or we're all dead!

Hotel Reservations Alert!!! You need to get a hold of the Hyatt Hotel at warp speed nine as the hotel is NEARLY SOLD OUT and is very full. At this point, the KublaCon discount block is totally sold out, so we can not guarantee the KublaCon rate of $106 a night. So please call the hotel at 1-800-233-1234 as soon as you can to lock in the best rate possible! You might consider their website specials, or if you have a AAA or AMEX discount, these might be available.

Alternately, we've secured a limited number of discount rooms at the Bay Landing Hotel just down the street. Rates are $109 per night. Call 650-259-9000 and ask for the KublaCon discount rate.

Please Carpool!!! Not only is saving gas going to save you money, it is the green thing to do. So make Scotty proud by saving “more power” and carpool to the show this year. Please note you can also take BART to the SF Airport and then take a shuttle to the Hyatt.

Parking Alert!!! Not only will carpooling (or by using public transportation) help you and us, but it will also help the parking situation. Last year, many people were tempted to park across the street and we need to warn you that the police did ticket

These are the continuing voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Her ongoing mission: to...

…bring you the best game convention anywhere! Our crew of KublaCon Event Coordinators has worked hard all season long to get KublaCon ready and it is sure to be another great Con. You can look here to see the highlights of the different areas

Admiral, if we go "by the book" like Lieutenant Saavik, hours could seem like days.

OK, we won’t quite make you work a couple of days. But eight hours is good enough! It does take a very large amount of time and work to put together our convention so we are still looking for some rugged and ready volunteers to help out this year.  Put in your 8 hours and not only will you get free admission to the show, you’ll also get a spiffy green 2009 KublaCon pin.

We also have a webpage where you can sign up for your volunteer time online. You can visit it here. If you don't already have an online account, you'll need to make one. Then just log into your account, search for various volunteer tasks, and check the ones that you're interested in doing. Jen, our Volunteer Coordinator, will monitor your requests... and assign people to tasks between now and KublaCon. You'll be able to search and view your task requests... and your task assignments. Check it out!

We tried it once your way, Khan, are you game for a rematch?

You won’t have a hard time finding a game (or asking them for a rematch) with all the events at the show this year! Here is a breakdown of the almost 600 official gaming events to be found at this years show:

Role Playing Games – 174 events
Table Top Board Games - 134 events
Historical Miniatures – 68 events
Young Players Games – 65 Events
Fantasy/Sci Fi Miniatures – 48 events
Seminars and Special Events – 47 events
Collectable Card Games - 34 events
Collectible Miniature Games - 24 events
Beginner’s Track – 23 Events
Historical Board Games - 22 events
Live Action Role Playing – 9 events
And many other Events and Demos!

So if there is a game you want to play (regardless of what type of game it is) you will find it at KublaCon somewhere this year. If you are looking for more details on the games that are available this year, you can check them out at our KublaCon Game Search!

Or you can also download the complete Onsite Program Book here!

So much for a little training cruise...

Do you have all your space gear packed and ready to warp on over to KublaCon? Now that it is in just a few weeks, it’s now time to make your plans to attend. If you need any pointers, you can take a look at our “survival guide” on our Getting ready for KublaCon page where you can find good tidbits of info to help you along.

The Kobayashi Maru Scenario frequently wreaks havoc on students and equipment

OK, you may not find that exact scenario at KublaCon. But don’t you want first crack at all of the other scenarios we DO have? Once again you will have the ability to sign up for our RPG events (and a few select other games) before KublaCon starts. Doing it now instead of on site will mean you will have more time to play games at the Con as you don’t have to wait in line to select your choices at the Kiosks. You will have to create a KublaCon.com account (if you don’t have one) to access the shuffler system. The deadline for selecting your choices will be Midnight on Sunday May the 17th.

You may STILL SUBMIT REQUESTS ON-SITE... using one of our kiosks. And the Shuffler will NOT run until the designated time at KublaCon. Go to and learn about the Online Shuffler System here!

Khan, you bloodsucker. You're going to have to do your own dirty work now!

This year’s batch of KublaCon Pins really are blood suckers! We are now in our ninth year in the tradition of annual KublaCon pins and Tim Heuskin has created another pin design and cover art for our Onsite Program book in his whimsical style. So make sure you come to the show and add these pins to your collection! You can check out this year’s DraKubla pin set here!

KublaCon is once again sponsoring a blood drive by Stanford Blood Center. Please help us help others and participate. Each donor will receive a cloisonné pin designed by Robert Heinlein for the first Science Fiction blood drive 30 years ago and some KublaBucks to use in our Prize Vault! The blood drive is Sunday... so check it out.

Prayer, Mr. Saavik. The Klingons don't take prisoners.

And they can also take away a whole cargo hold of prizes from our Prize Vault! So you better come to the show so you can take your fair share. For many of the official game events at KublaCon, if you win that event, not only will you be given one of our yellow Prize Pins, but you could also win a stash of KublaBucks. You can then bring your KublaBucks to Kubla's Vault to claim your reward.  Of course some prizes will be worth more then others so with this system you can preview the prizes, decide which one you want, and keep collecting KublaBucks until you get it. Be sure to check it out when you get there!

Romulan Ale. Why, Bones, you know this is illegal.

Don’t worry, you won’t find anything like that in our giant Dealers Room. But you will find many other items of interest there. Once again we have a Dealers Room with more Vendors then you can point a phaser at. Asmodee Editions, Mongoose Publishing, Z-Man Games and Hero Games are just a few of the great Dealers you will find at the show. You can check them all of them out here.

Damn it Jim, I am just a country Doctor

OK, he is certainly not a doctor. But he is one of our Senior Staff members and hs been with us for nine year. Unfortunately, this is his last year with us (Boo Hoo!) and will be stepping down to let someone else take over for him. So with no further adieu, we shall introduce to you our Historical Miniatures Coordinator Jon Caudill!

Well, that’s it for this exciting episode of Khannections! Stay tuned for our next informative issue and thanks again for taking the time to read our newsletter. We’ll see you at the Con real soon!

Thanks! :o)

The Fine Print:

KublaCon does NOT sell, rent or share its mailing list with anyone else! Please feel free to send this email to your friends and help us spread the word on how fun KublaCon is. Grandma Bost says: "You can grow up, but whatever you do, don't ever grow old." and we can do that by playing more games! OK Japji, let’s sing it like the Blues Brothers! I got everything I need, almost. I got everything I need, almost. But I’m not at KublaCon and that’s the thing I need the most!

Go Kubla! :o)
