Welcome to our Twenty Third issue of the Khannections Newsletter!

Greetings from KublaCon to all of our readers!

Oh, It's good to be back!

Finally! After a WHOLE year of waiting, KublaCon is back. Yes, the excitement and fun of KublaCon is coming to a boiling point it's just 3 weeks away, Yay! And not only that, we are celebrating our 10th year of giving our attendees what we believe to be one of the best shows to come to across the country.

We have lots of good news to fill you in on, so let's get straight to it!

Yeah, I can fly.

And you better fly fast! There are ONLY a few days left to pre-register and get your discount for your weekend pass. Until May 10th, you can still get a discounted weekend membership, AND, we are still offering Lifetime Memberships at an introductory low price of only $399. Not only will this get you a free pass for the rest of your life to KublaCon, but there will be plenty of other perks that will only be available to our lifetime members. You can get all the details of our Lifetime Membership program here!

Hotel Reservation alert!

You need to get a hold of the Hyatt Hotel at warp speed nine as the hotel is NEARLY SOLD OUT and is very full. At this point, the KublaCon discount block is totally sold out, so we can not guarantee the KublaCon rate of $106 a night. So please call the hotel at 1-800-233-1234 as soon as you can to lock in the best rate possible! You might consider their website specials, or if you have a AAA or AMEX discount, these might be available. Alternately, we've secured a limited number of discount rooms at the Bay Landing Hotel just down the street. Rates are $109 per night. Call 650-259-9000 and ask for the KublaCon discount rate.

Please Carpool!

Not only is saving gas going to save you money, it is the green thing to do. So if you can please try and carpool to the show this year. Please note you can also take BART to the SF Airport and then take a shuttle to the Hyatt.

Parking alert!

Not only will carpooling (or by using public transportation) help you and us, but it will also help the parking situation. In years past, many have been tempted to park across the street and we have seen people get ticketed for it.

KublaCon is now on Facebook

If you douse me again, and I'm not on fire,
I'm donating you to a city college.

OK, we won't quite put you on fire hazard duty, but there are plenty of other things to do! It does take a very large amount of time and work to put together our convention so we are still looking for some rugged and ready volunteers to help out this year.  Put in your 8 hours and not only will you get free admission to the show, you'll also get a spiffy green 2010 KublaCon pin. We also have a webpage where you can sign up for your volunteer time online. You can visit it here. If you don't already have an online account, you'll need to make one. Then just log into your account, search for various volunteer tasks, and check the ones that you're interested in doing. Mike, our Volunteer Coordinator, will monitor your requests... and assign people to tasks between now and KublaCon. You'll be able to search and view your task requests... and your task assignments. Check it out!

I'm sorry. This is the fun-vee. The hum-drum-vee is back there.

Or you can also download the complete Onsite Program Book here!

I've been in captivity for three months.
There are two things I want to do.
One, I want an American cheeseburger, and the other...

Is to go to KublaCon!!! Do you have all your super hero gear packed and ready to fly on over to KublaCon? Now that it is in just a few weeks, it's now time to make your plans to attend. If you need any pointers, you can take a look at our 'survival guide? on our "Getting ready for KublaCon" page where you can find good tidbits of info to help you along.

Once again you will have the ability to sign up for our RPG events (and a few select other games) before KublaCon starts. Doing it now instead of on site will mean you will have more time to play games at the Con as you don't have to wait in line to select your choices at the Kiosks.

You will have to create a KublaCon.com account (if you don't have one) to access the shuffler system.

The deadline for selecting your choices has been extended until will be Midnight on Sunday May the 23rd.

You may STILL SUBMIT REQUESTS ON-SITE... using one of our kiosks. And the Shuffler will NOT run until the designated time at KublaCon. Go to and learn about the Online Shuffler System here!

Coat it with that gold-titanium alloy...
and throw in some hotrod red...

This year's batch of KublaCon Pins really are Super! No really! They are Superheroes! We are now in our Tenth year in the tradition of annual KublaCon pins and Tim Heuskin has created another pin design and cover art for our Onsite Program book in his whimsical style. So make sure you come to the show and add these pins to your collection! You can check out this year's Super Hero pin set here!

Hmmm. Your eyes are red. Tears for your long lost boss?

OK, it might hurt a little once they poke you with the needle, but it's for a great cause! KublaCon is once again sponsoring a blood drive by Stanford Blood Center. Please help us help others and participate. Each donor will receive a cloisonné pin designed by Robert Heinlein for the first Science Fiction blood drive 30 years ago and some KublaBucks to use in our Prize Vault! The blood drive is Sunday... so check it out.

Even Tony Stark would be impressed...

By the treasure hoard of prizes from our Prize Vault! So you better come to the show for your chance to win something schway cool! For many of the official game events at KublaCon, if you win that event, not only will you be given one of our yellow Prize Pins, but you could also win a stash of KublaBucks.

You can then bring your KublaBucks to Kubla's Vault to claim your reward.  The vault is in the EXHIBITORs hall and open the same hours as the hall.

Of course some prizes will be worth more then others so with this system you can preview the prizes, decide which one you want, and keep collecting KublaBucks until you get it. Be sure to check it out when you get there!

Wow! Look! It's an Iron Man Suit in a briefcase!

OK, nothing as spiffy as that in our giant Dealers Room. But you will find many other items of interest there. Once again we have a Dealers Room with more Vendors then you can point a repulsor beam at. Chaosium, Days of Wonder, Flying Buffalo, Z-Man Games and Hero Games are just a few of the great Dealers you will find at the show. You can check them all of them out here.

Please support our fellow California Conventions!

PolyCon 28 will be held at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in the University Union from June 25-27, 2010.PolyCon is a student run game convention of about 300 people with a focus on role playing, but also supports many other events. We are famous for our large gamer/game ratio, our friendly staff, and our FREE Saturday Night BBQ.  We have a whole section solely for miniature wargaming. We use our auditorium for our 'Pit' (board games and pick up games), vendor area, and to host related clubs. We will also have lounges for Card Games, LARPS, RPGA, Console Games and Anime.

Expanded space means that we can create other areas for computer games (LAN Party) and 10 quiet RPG rooms. The REALLY cool part is that we will also have access to Mustang Lanes Arcade and Bowling Alley as well as the Craft Center. We plan to have terrain making, dungeon tile creation, chain mail making and other crafts going on throughout the weekend in the craft center. One of our officers is currently putting together an RPG, CannonBowl, where BOWLING is the game mechanic.

Our giant events will include Pygmy, Ginormous Settlers, and Life Size RoboRally. Backstage Pizza and Starbucks will be open extended hours and we hope to have some gaming space at Backstage, usable for RPGs and Magic. The UU plaza will be brand new and we will host our fabulous BBQ out on the new plaza which includes lawn space and ample tables.

Some of our new staff are even putting together ?Active Gamer? events that will involve hiking, running around, and general outdoor fun. And of course, there will be the return of Giant Wii Sports, on the huge Chumash screen. You can get more info at: www.polycon.org

OK, he isn't as cute as Pepper Potts...

But we love him anyways! He is our Prize Lord and new Volunteer Coordinator and has been with us on and off for many years.  So with no further adieu, we shall introduce to Mike Eckert!

Well, that's it for this exciting episode of Khannections! Stay tuned for our next informative issue and thanks again for taking the time to read our newsletter. We?ll see you at the Con real soon!

Thanks! =)

The Fine Print:

KublaCon does NOT sell, rent or share its mailing list with anyone else! Please feel free to send this email to your friends and help us spread the word on how fun KublaCon is! Grandma Bost says: "You can grow up, but whatever you do, don't ever grow old." and we can do that by playing more games! And here is a special hidden 10th Anniversary contest for our readers who REALLY do read the news letter. If you email us at:    hiddencontest@kublacon.com     with your name and contact info, we will put your name in a hat for a chance to win a collectible KublaCon pin. One winner will get one of the UBER rare 10th Anniversary silver pins. Three other winners will get a regular yellow winner's pins. Submissions must be received by May 13th. Winners will be notified by email and MUST collect their pin in person at the 2010 Convention!

OK Japji, let's sing it like the AC/DC??

No stop signs, speed limit.

Nobody's gonna slow me down.

Rolling the dice, getting resources,

Nobody's gonna mess up my round.

Hey Japji, trade me some ore,

Play it with this wheat,

Building cities so I can't be beat.

I'm on the highway to Catan!

Go Kubla! :o)
