Role Playing Games: A new year and another Kublacon Greetings from the Kublacon RPG staff. We hope you had a pleasant holiday season and a happy New Year. Now that we’re officially in ’05, it’s time to start thinking about Kublacon. Last year over 200 of you volunteered to provide the best gaming experience on the West Coast. Your events make Kublacon the premier gaming event in California, and we come to you in a new year to ask for a repeat performance. A new addition to the Family We now have a new member in our group to help out with the ever growing job of running RPG’s at KublaCon. His name is Andrew Bullene and we hope you will join us in giving him a hearty hello and huzzah for joining us. Four days in May It’s never too early to start planning for the next Kublacon (May 27-30), and now that the New Year has rolled around, it’s the perfect time to start sending in those submissions. The earlier you submit your game proposal, the more likely you’ll get the day and time of your preference. And of course, running a game gets you into the convention for free, and with a neat GM pin to boot. A call out to roleplaying GM’s to help out! We are always looking for GM’s to run games at KublaCon but we do have a specific need for a few areas that need help. Please contact us at the below email if you are interested in helping out with the following events:
DundraCon One of the premiere roleplaying conventions, DundraCon (www.dundracon.com) is coming up on President’s Day weekend, February 18-21. We hope you’ll support this long-running convention with the same enthusiasm as you’ve shown us. So long, and thanks for all the fish Well, that’s pretty much that from roleplaying. Thanks for listening, and get those games in. Early submissions are more likely to get the day and time requested, and it makes it easier to arrange location and prize support. We look forward to hearing from you and talking to you. See you at the con! You can reach the Roleplaying Department at: Last year we had a wonderful range of games, and we have no doubt you’ll come through for us again. Send us your old favorites. You can never have too much D&D or Cthulhu. The D20 line keeps growing, offering interesting new games like Mutants and Masterminds, or excellent conversions such as Fading Suns. Finally, send us something off the beaten path. Every year we get a few Toons or Feng Shui or some other great game that’s maybe a little off the radar, so don’t be afraid to submit something new.
Comments and cogitations from Tabletop Games Yes, ladies and gentlemen, 2005 has arrived and therefore Kublacon planning begins in earnest. Are you a board game or non-collectible card game player who would love to demo and teach a particular favorite or new acquisition? Then Tabletop wants YOU! Go to the Kublacon website and submit your proposal. Remember, the sooner you do so, the easier it will be to accommodate your requests and requirements! From classics or the latest new hot title, whatever your taste we'd love to have you sign up to GM. Remember these highlights that have already been scheduled: 1) Reiner Knizia will be at Kublacon 2005! That's right, Dr. Knizia will be there, presenting panels and helping to lead the Kniziathon on Sunday. Come play his games and meet the designer. 2) Dr. Knizia has also provided KublaCon with an exclusive card game that will be available to all attendees. 3) The second annual Settlers Regional Qualifier with Guido Teuber from Mayfair/son of Klaus in attendance will take place on Saturday. 4) For the second year in a row we will be running an Überplay-a-thon. Following the Kniziathon model, Überplay is once again on board for our Monday playing of their titles. With China (a remake of Web of Power), a new version of For Sale, and other titles heading our way, along with the excellent Hansa from earlier this year, this should be a fantastic Monday finish to the weekend. From our Young Players Coordinator: Hello All! KublaCon 2004's Young Players room was a huge success! Much of our success was due to the wonderful people, GMs and others, who volunteered in the room. KublaCon 2005 is fast approaching and, once again, I'm looking for help with the Young Player's room. We have great things planned for this year! In addition to our usual offering of games and events for younger players (ages 8 - 15), we plan to offer a special area for 'Younger Players'. This area will provide supervised activities for younger players ages 3-8. Parents are encouraged to participate with their kids in this room! It would be great to find some credentialed teachers and/or a few teenagers that like to baby-sit kids to sign up as volunteers in the Younger Player's room. So, how can you help? Well, I'm looking for some specific help. I'm looking for people to run younger player friendly versions of the following games or game types. Additionally, if you would like to volunteer for either the Young or Younger Players section, please contact me. Card Games: We’d like to have some popular CCGs. We’d need one or more people to be able to do at least 1 per day as a scheduled event. Card Tournaments: We’d love to have a CCG tournament. We’d need one or more people who know how to run one to set this up and run it as a scheduled event. It would probably be good to have a few practice sessions - which could be the earliest of the scheduled CCGs from the previous item. Miniature Games (clickable, historical, science fiction, D&D - all are good!): We’d like to have at least one, preferably one each on Saturday and Sunday, miniature game especially for the kids. I have no preferences. Warhammer? Mage Knights? Roleplaying Games (any type) We’d like to have at least one RPG scheduled per day. LARPs I know that young players have a ball with LARPs. We’d need someone to create and run a simplified LARP with pre made characters. Send me an email! I'm looking forward to hearing from you! Becky Thomas CCGs - Collectabe Card Games KublaCon is proud to announce that it will once again host the Northern California Kotei. The Kotei is a premier tournament for the L5R CCG. Last year, KublaCon hosted one of the largest Kotei in the world. 200 players from all across the country came to KublaCon to participate in the event. Here is the initial prize pool for the Kotei.
A lot more prizes are going to be added. Check out the KublaCon website for updates. You can reach the Collectable Card Games department at: ccgs@kublacon.com Producers' Report Postcards in the mail! KublaCon in 2008! Treebeard Lounge Moves to Scallinis |
