Reports from the field -- big plans already in the works!

Greetings from the Kublacon RPG staff!

We now have over 100 games in our database and we want to send a big thanks out to our GM’s who have submitted those games. We have started the process of confirming and scheduling them, and spaces are running out fast.

However, we are looking for a few more Call of Cthulhu and White Wolf games and we are especially looking for more D20 and D20 variant events.  So any D&D 3rd and 3.5 editions, Modern, Spycraft, Stargate, Ravenloft, Conan, Mutants and Masterminds (just to name a few) games you want to run would be fine by us.  If any of your friends like to run RPG games and have not submitted a game of their own, please let them know how much fun it is to run a game at KublaCon and ask them to submit one to us.  We have the same Luxury Suites this year and if you have run games at the Hyatt in the past, you know how nice they are. So get your friends and family excited about getting those games in to us by April 1st.  You can register to be a GM and submit games at KublaCon Here!  And of course, running a game gets you into the convention for free, and with a neat GM pin to boot.

We still need help in some of the areas we have talked about before (Mega Dungeon Crawl, Young Players and the Beginners Track), so please contact us as soon as possible so we can get you set up to help out.

We are also planning on opening the Dwarven Forge maps to anyone who wants to run their event on this wonderful setup on Friday night. There should be four maps that can be used to run your adventure on and as soon as we get the maps up online, we will send a note out to our GM’s so you can get busy fitting your game to them.

AEG games will be at the convention and we are excited about seeing them support the RPG and CCG areas. Thomas Denmark (creator of the Dungeoneer game) will be running an event for his new role-playing system (Antediluvia, a sci-fantasy roleplaying game) and we are also working with Eden Games (Buffy/Angel) and Chaosium Inc (Cthulhu) to support our area with events and prize support.

KublaCon's RPG department is proud to announce Special Guest, Keith Baker. Keith's credits include: Eberron Campaign Setting (Lead Author), and various sourcebooks for D20 products from Atlas Games, Goodman Games and Green Ronin. He's very excited to be joining us at KublaCon this year. Check out his website.

Well, that’s pretty much that from roleplaying.  Thanks for listening, and get those games in.  We look forward to hearing from you and talking to you. See you at the con!

Thank you from the Roleplaying Department and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

See you at the Con!

Tabletop Confirms 61 and Counting!

Boardgame lovers rejoice!  The schedule is quickly filling in the Tabletop area! Head on over to the site, check out what we have to offer, and propose a game if you want to run something.  If there's a favorite title you think we're missing, or some amazing game that you MUST see hit the tables over the weekend, drop me a line at boardgames@kublacon.com  We're here to serve you, but space is limited.

Speaking of Space...

Open gaming will be much more readily available to the tabletop area this year, as the space next to the Tree Rooms, the former Scallinis restaurant, will be open for pickup games throughout the con.  No longer will we have to sweetly ask you to move out of the Tree Rooms Foyer so that a scheduled event can take your spot; not longer will you have to schlep downstairs to the other open gaming area.  YES!

Sign Up for the Settlers Tournament When You Register Now, as part of the registration process at the kublacon.com site, you can reserve your slot in the Settlers of Catan Regional Qualifier on Saturday.  Reserve your spot, show up on time, and your chair at the table is guaranteed.  Win that trip to Origins, then maybe on to Germany for the World Championships.  Also, stop by and meet Guido Teuber, son of Klaus and one of the first guinea pigs (read play testers) for his father's award-winning designs.  I'm sure he has some stories to tell!

New to Boardgames?  Don't Fret...

...we've been planning events with you in mind!  Come on up and play some of the great games that have won Germany's Game of the Year Award (the Spiel des Jahres).  The past few years have yielded some excellent winning titles that should catch the fancy of those either new to boardgames, or who just occasionally play with cardboard counters.  Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Alhambra and others are on the schedule and will be waiting for you.

The Geeks Are Coming!

Or make that the wonderful and amazing Aldie and Derk of Boardgamegeek.com!  Flying in from Texas to survey the Kublacon fun, the wizards of boardgamegeek, a daily web stop for many, will be on hand to play games and RECORD A LIVE PODCAST OF GEEKSPEAK!!!  Come watch a podcast, ask questions, and enjoy the banter, then stay for the necessary game of Tichu with Derk.

May is fast approaching - we're gearing up and the excitement is mounting.

Tabletop hopes to see you in May!

Our Beginner’s Track

Do you have a friend or relative who has never been to a gaming convention before? Kublacon has now added a Beginners Track to our convention! Bring your friends down to the Beginners Track meeting area so they can learn how gaming conventions work, and try a quick demonstration of each of the major types of games. Here are some of the demos we may have:

  • Dungeons & Dragons (RPG)
  • Hero (RPG)
  • Call of Cthulhu (RPG)
  • Games Workshop (miniatures)
  • Settlers of Catan (board game)
  • Magic: The Gathering (CCG)

So if you carpool with your friends, and they can learn about games through our Beginners Track…they’re left with very few excuses not to come with you.

Thanks! :o)
