Conventions my dear friends, are 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation and 2% butterscotch ripple. Hello and welcome to another issue of Khannections. Yes. We are in a Willy Wonka kind of mood as we are getting very close to opening the doors to our own Chocolate Room full of games and fun for everyone! So hold your breath, make a wish, and count to three because KublaCon 2005 is almost here! We want to thank all of you who have submitted games to run at the Convention. We may be the ones who organize it, but it’s people like you that put on the show. So we want to give a big “Scrumpdiddleumptious Bar!” to those that have helped us out and have brought their games to the best convention anywhere. You say you didn’t get your game in? Well it’s still not too late to help out and participate. KublaCon is on a pace to attract well over 2500 people this year and that requires a LOT of help to run smoothly. All you need to do is volunteer for 8 hours and your admission to the convention is free. If you have already paid for admission, you will get that refunded to you at the Con after you have put in your 8 hours. This is also a great way for bringing your friends, relatives and significant others to KublaCon and get them involved with and/or introducing them to all of the gaming goodness for free. There are many slots open for volunteering so if you are interested in helping out, send our Volunteer Coordinator (Angel Brocket) an email to let her know. So now that KublaCon is less than a couple of weeks away have you made your plans to attend? We have a candy store full of games to offer attendees and here are the totals of the many different types of games you’ll see at KublaCon.
So if there is a game you want to play (regardless of what type of game it is), it’s almost a sure bet that you will find it at KublaCon somewhere this year. If you are looking for more details on the games that are available this year, you can check them out at KublaCon Game Search! Or you can view or download our onsite program in PDF format here. So much time and so little to do. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it. There really is a lot of work still left for us to do in these last two weeks, but one of the most important things for you to know is this is your last chance to Pre-register for KublaCon. Due to a delay in getting out our postcard reminders (Darn 10 year old postage meter!), we’ve extended the May 15th registration deadline until May 18th! After May 18th, you will have to get your badges on site. The full 4 day weekend price is currently $45 (onsite it will be $50) so please visit our “Registration” page and sign up now! (Yes, we know it’s only 5 bucks but that will still save you enough to buy a few Wonka Bars!). Also, for the first time, we’re offering one day, online, pre-registration for Saturday only. The price is $30 (same as onsite), but it will save you time waiting in line since you can pick up your badge at the Pre-reg check in. And finally, you still have time (but not much!) to reserve a room at the Hyatt by calling 1-800-233-1234 and ask to get the KublaCon Special rate of $101 per night. Little surprises around every corner, but nothing dangerous… The rest of our Oompa Loompa’s are busy getting ready and putting the finishing touches on all of the gaming goodness to be enjoyed. This is our most comprehensive report from ALL of the departments. So here's a "KublaCon 2005" round-up of highlights from our department heads.
I’ve got a Golden Ticket!!! Our Hospitality Coordinator, Michael Eckert wants all of you to know that we will be giving tours of our “Chocolate Factory” this year and here is what he has to say:
Our Prize Lord (Andrew Lockwood) also has some “Golden Ticket” news to share:
You're a crook. You're a cheat and a swindler… How could you do a thing like this, raise up a little boy's hopes and then dash all his dreams to pieces? You're an inhuman monster!!! OK. He isn’t that bad, but he has been known to play characters like that. So in this month’s 10 questions interview please meet our enigmatic and charismatic LARP coordinator, Dave Oberholzer.
They are the music makers, and are the dreamers of the dreams. At least that is how we feel about our special guests and the list is growing. This year, we've got more amazing special guests than ever before! From all around the world our special friends will be joining the fun of KublaCon. And these folks aren't just on display... they're gamers... they're fun! Many of them will be running events that you can actually play in. Visit our Special Guests page to get the latest info.
Well Folks, thanks for checking out our 5th issue of the Khannections Newsletter. Take care, take it easy, and see you at the Con!
The Fine Print: KublaCon does NOT sell, rent or share its mailing list with anyone else! Please feel free to send this email to others who you feel might enjoy our Convention and help us spread the word on how fun KublaCon is. Grandma Bost says: "You can grow up, but whatever you do, don't ever grow old." and we can do that by playing more games! OK Japji... Let’s sing it like the Beatles! She loves games yeah, yeah, yeah. She loves games yeah, yeah, yeah. With a love like that, you know you should be glad! Go Kubla! :o)
