Getting ready for 2006, May 26-29, it's not too late!

Start planning your pilgrimage to KublaCon 2005. Listed below are some tips, hints and assorted links to help you get started.

GameMasters

You can start submitting events NOW! “What? Are you nuts?” you might be thinking, “It’s nearly six months away!” (OK… we are nuts, but that’s a given). But as KublaCon grows, the earlier you submit your events, the more likely they’ll get accepted (especially in the RPG and Tabletop Board Game areas). For example, in the RPG area we had to turn away almost 20 games that were submitted in the late days of the submittal period. Also… it helps potential/new attendees get excited about KublaCon when they visit our website and see an awesome selection of “Event Proposals” months before the con.

And if you’re not ready to submit a new event for 2006, you can take advantage our “Update” feature just for GM’s! If you’re the kind of GM who runs a similar, popular, event every year (such as Aerodrome or Monster Smash) you can now just update the event to an “Event Proposal” instead of having to enter all the information again.

It’s easy to do: Just log in to your GM account. Any events you ran last year will now be marked as “Prior Yr Event.” Simply click the “Update” link and you’ll be taken to a series of forms that will be filled with the event’s info. Change/update any description, requested time, etc., and with a few clicks of the mouse you’ll have turned your event into an “Event Proposal” for 2006!

Attendees

You can pre-register NOW! And you, too, might be thinking, “What? Are you crazy? It’s nearly six months away!” (Well… OK… we are crazy too.) But registering early is more important than ever. You can save $15 off the full four day pass if you register by February 28th. So that is only $35 for all four days of gaming goodness! And as usual, parents will receive an additional $10 off their weekend pass when they register with a fully paid child. And remember, even if you do wait to purchase tickets at the door (for $50) you will still get free access (without having to purchase “event” tickets) to well over 800 games and special events!

Pre-registering offers you several bonuses:

  • Save money
  • Save time by going to the pre-reg line
  • Earn 100 point priority slip for entering RPG and LARP events

And new to KublaCon this year is our "Favorites" list that you can create while searching for the events you love and want to attend at KublaCon. If you don't already have a GM account, you can create an account right here. Oh... and you don't have to be a GM to take advantage of the new features.

Hotel Accommodations

We have been told that the rooms at the Hyatt are almost going fast and that there isn’t much time left to get the KublaCon rate for the weekend. You can start reserving your rooms online here, or by calling
1-888-421-1442 and asking for the KublaCon Special rate of $102 per night. This last year, the hotel completely sold out of rooms for Saturday night... so book now!

Here's a little insight for you: When conventions contract with hotels, there's usually a cutoff date at which point the hotel no longer has to offer the discounted convention rate. Sometimes, the hotel may extend the cutoff date by a week or two. But, they will almost never give the discount rate if you book just a couple of days before, or try to get a room on-site. Our official cutoff date is May 10th... after which we cannot guarantee the hotel will give you a discounted room!

Volunteers

We are always looking for help! It takes a very large number of people to make KublaCon go off clean and smooth. If you help out for at least 8 hours, you will get your weekend pass purchase reimbursed to you.

Here is a note from our Volunteer Coordinator, Angel Brockett…

I'm looking forward this year to a new volunteer registration system based off of the same system Kublacon uses for GMs. It will streamline picking the time and type of volunteer job that works for you. The system is not up yet but will perhaps be ready by Dundracon. I'm looking forward to seeing old volunteers returning and meeting new volunteers.

Kublacon is always looking for volunteers to keep the convention running smoothly so if you want to volunteer email me at volunteers@kublacon.com
