Get to know your organizers! Ten questions with Troy Gann

1. Tell us a little about yourself...

My name is Troy Gann and I work in the miniatures department. I enjoy board games, RPG's and just about any type of game but my passion and hobby falls on miniatures.

2. What do you do at KublaCon?

I work with the other miniature staff people but my primary focus is to bring the Games Workshop tournaments to life at the Con.  So I spend a lot of time making sure the "Goldens" meets our customers expectations.

3. How did you get involved with KublaCon and how long have you been here?

Before KublaCon existed there were two conventions. One convention was on the Peninsula it was called Manafest and the other was in the East Bay and it was called GameCon. The first year of GameCon I attended as a GM but evidently so many people liked my events that I was asked back to GameCon as a staff person.  At that time I was the miniatures department so I coordinated historical, sci-fi miniatures as well as several tournaments.

4. What motivates you and what rewards to you get out of being involved with KublaCon?

My biggest reward is seeing someone who was not sure about coming but once there they come up to me and say, "I don't know how I have survived this long without coming to KublaCon!!"  That tells me that they are having a fantastic time and we as a staff have put together a special experience for our attendees.

5. What is your earliest gaming or game convention memory?

Many years ago while I was attending training for the Navy in San Diego.  One of my instructors was an avid D&D dungeon master.  He invited several of us to an introduction of his newly created world and we ended up playing for 2 days straight. I was officially hooked that was back in 1981. I also remember playing Star Trek on the University of Texas computer system that was around 1978.

6. What is your favorite gaming or game convention memory?

Playing a GW 40K game there were several of us playing on each side.  One of my friends had an opportunity to really change the direction of the game.  He goes to roll the dice to determine the outcome and he rolls the statistically hardest bad thing to happen at the time. An assault cannon jamming 3 times -- and proceeds to blow his landspeeder up.  Interestingly enough prior to his rolling the dice everyone else had mentioned that the only way he could not help was to roll 3 jams.  He then proceeded to roll the impossible.

Eventually when we all stopped laughing we gave him our sympathy but he has never lived the moment down.

7. What is your least favorite gaming or game convention memory?

Honestly I can not think of one but I guess the realization that after 4 days KublaCon has to end.  It is a happy but sad moment.

8. Give us a top 3 list of your favorite games and tell us your least favorite game.

     1. To no one's surprise Games Workshop 40K (miniature)

     2. Cashflow 101 (boardgame)

     3. Ghost Recon all flavors (video game)

     4. Least favorite hmmmmm...... I guess it would be Pokemon

9. Where do you currently play games and what do you play when you are there?

I play at a friends house and we play all type of miniature games but primarily 40K.

10. If you want to tell all of the KublaCon attendees one thing, what would it be?

Any gaming convention is a unique experience but coming to KublaCon is like getting together with close family and enjoy being together.
